Are Mobile Phones Safe For Children?

Children are more tech savvy than ever and even very young children are confident using mobile phones or tablets. Even with parental controls in place, it’s natural to worry about what your kids might accidentally be exposed to when they’re using your devices. There are some easy ways to make phones safer for kids of all ages, without making them feel spied on.  Choose The Right Time To Give Them Their Own Devices Try not to be swayed by pleas for their own phone if you don’t think your child is ready. Young children can watch approved videos on your …

My 6-year-old’s Christmas Plan

I’m more than slightly in awe of my youngest. She is so organised – definitely more than I am and she makes lists and always has a plan! I not a ‘list’ person. I don’t (normally) plan. I like to wing it. I rely on my superior brain to remember things which is failing me frequently now. My little one on the other hand is a ‘list’ child. She has a plan for almost everything. Like this recent plan for Christmas. It’s even pictorial! She’s 6. She knows what she wants and is making sure she gets it. And yes, …

Introducing…The Magic Hat Reviewer on YouTube

Aeryn has been long since pestering me for her own YouTube channel. Isn’t mine enough? Apparently not. She obviously had a plan in mind and what a plan it is. The idea of the channel is completely hers (I’m actually quite proud of her). Every time she puts her hat on, a toy appears. So say a big hello to (drumroll please)… The Magic Hat Reviewer   And it doesn’t end there. Soon after the channel was set up, she got a poster ready (Heck, I don’t have one!) . I have strict instructions to recreate this on the computer. …

To Grandad – Please Come Back

How do you tell a 5-year-old her very beloved grandfather has passed away? It was the hardest thing I had to do. Well, perhaps not. Because in actual fact, I didn’t have to tell her per se. When I got the news that my father had passed away suddenly, my reaction got the children worried enough to know that the news was the worst. Grandad had left the world after a massive heart attack. I could not come to terms with it. How could the children? My father being overseas meant that I attended the funeral with my siblings. The …

FA Girls’ Football Week #WeCanPlay

I was pleasantly surprised when Jadyn came home one day saying she wanted to enter the tryouts to play football for her school team. To be honest, she had never shown any interest in playing the game and more so, I don’t think I had ever encouraged her to do so. It was great news to find out that she had been chosen to be on the team. Yes, girls can play football and they are pretty good at it. I felt quite proud to see her play and though they didn’t win overall, the team did pretty well. Do …

Our Active Crew Experience at the Virgin Active Health Club

Life has changed dramatically since I was young. We played games, outside. My children also play a lot of games  – on the iPad!! Which means that they don’t really get much scope to get active. Yes, there are parks but the weather doesn’t always permit and with winter upon us, it would be nice to be able to get children fit through exercise. Most gyms do not cater for young children. I had asked at mine (yes I do go to the gym – once a month). But Virgin Active has launched the Active Crew and I was quite …
