Review: Mighty Lights – the new addition to the Walkers range

DSC07752

We love crisps in our house and I normally see nothing wrong in the children having a packet now and again. Yes, I also sometimes put in a packet into their lunch bag (feeling guilty all the while) But, there are just some days that one is in a hurry and besides the children love them!

Now, I can put a pack into their lunch boxes without the guilt, all thanks to Walkers Mighty Lights.

Walkers Mighty Lights are crisps that have 30% less fat content than other standard crisps. They have no artificial preservatives or colours. They are also suitable for vegetarians and do not contain nuts.

So when we were sent these to review, how exactly did they stack up?

They taste absolutely yummy. They are crunchy and – crisp! All three flavours went down very well with us. The children could not wait to open the packet and had to taste them immediately. Did I tell you that the crisps arrived at 8.30 in the morning? Well, they did. And I found out one thing – it’s never too early in the morning to have crisps!

They dug in – attacking the roast chicken first. I did tell them to take a packet of each to try but if you have children you will know this – what one has the others have to have. Doesn’t matter that it makes more sense to taste different things. No! Its something about the packet of crisps is always tastier on the other side!!

So Roast Chicken it was. Flavour wise, it tasted great. I have to admit that I even enjoyed it and I am more a ready salted person. I found that this did not give me a kind of heartburn that I would get with other roast chicken flavours.

The Simply Salted was just yummy with just the right amount of salt in it.

The Sour Cream and Onion was a big hit with my son. His reaction was ‘Mamma Mia! Delici -oso!‘(This is his favourite new word. He’s taken to speaking with an Italian accent since playing Mario on his DS!)

We also liked the fact that they are mighty crisp.

Since having the crisps delivered, we had had them almost every day, taken them on picnics and long car drives while we took full advantage of the lovely weather and even on days that we had to stay in for lunch!

I am happy that I can give my children crisps and not feel guilty about it. When my little girl would ask me quite often for crisps for lunch, I would invariably have to tell her that it was only once a week that she could have crisps. To which she would reply that other children take them everyday. Now I can perhaps let her have them more often (maybe not every day but definitely more than once a week, if she likes)

The fact that the Mighty Lights contain 30% less fat and no MSG makes me ensure that the only crisps that I will be picking up with my weekly shop will be these. Since they are also available in three great flavours – Lightly Salted, Roast Chicken and Cheese and Onion (all of which are very popular at our home) and they taste good too, I might probably also have to get some between shops!
