Family day trip to Sea World San Diego

The children have been wanting to visit Sea World for some time now and I’m so glad we got to finally make it. San Diego is not far from where we are but we did set out early as we wanted to make the most of our day.

Sea World opens at 10 am on the weekend and we were there just past that. We purchased premier parking which meant that we would be able to park in the first 6 rows of the car park. Parking is normally $25 for the day and we paid an extra $3 to park upfront. For the extra $3, I’d definitely say it was worth it as after a long day of walking, the last thing you want to do is walk around the car park to your car.

We didn’t have to queue very long to get in. We had to pass our bags through security but that didn’t take long either.

The first thing the children did was put their hands into the touch tanks to touch the sharks. A great experience.

The next thing of course was to head to the Orca Encounter area because we were planning on booking lunch with the Orcas. However, it was all booked up. The first glimpse of the Orcas in their area is amazing. They are such beautiful, majestic creatures.  The Orca encounter takes place once a day, so we had it on our radar to come back for it.

We headed next to the dolphins and the children love dolphins. (who doesn’t) They have quite a few there and it was great to see them frolicking.

The Seal and Otter show was next and it brought back memories as we had seen this many years back when we were on our honeymoon. 🙂

The children really enjoyed it. We were a little late to the party so we didn’t get seats but we could still see the stage from where we were.

We stopped by to see the otters and seals and then headed off for lunch before the Orca show. We had lunch at Pizza. The 3 of us chose pasta which was a good serving and quite tasty.

The Orca encounter was lovely. We were in the wet zone but about 7 rows up and we didn’t catch any water but they were really good seats and we had a great view.

There was a lot of information that we received from the show and the animals appeared well-loved and cared for.

We hurried on to catch the Dolphin show and this was disappointing as there was no show. I guess we’ll have to go back.

We then went on the Arctic ride. We had about a 20 minute wait for it. Seeing the belugas and the walruses was a great experience.

We didn’t do the rides as we hadn’t brought along a change or a towel. I guess I should have been more prepared.

We did have a great day though and for the children, just seeing the Orcas was enough of a win for them.

We purchased a drinks refill for the day and this is always a good buy, in my opinion.

It does make a great day out for the family and I would recommend visiting.
