The EDF Energy #PrettyCurious Campaign – Don’t Underestimate the Power of Girls

I was brought up to believe that I could do anything a boy could do when it came to pursuing careers, but I am aware that in many households girls were steered more towards a career in the Arts, while boys were pushed towards a career in STEM. The fact that I pursued a career in Arts is purely because of my love of Literature. I teach my children the same and tell my girls that they can be whatever they want to be. Sometimes, it does come across that boys are more prone towards STEM careers but my girls …

Our In the Night Garden Picnic Party to raise funds for the NSPCC

We had a wonderful Sunday especially as we had our Picnic Party in support of the NSPCC. We had been sent a fundraising kit and a few extras and we had a lovely time. Our guests were quite excited too. Since the weather was not looking very promising, we held our picnic indoors. They are quite the best kind as it allows you to play all the games too. Our picnic blanket was laid out on the floor and we had lots of yummy treats – sandwiches and Knoppers (we’ll talk about these in another post) and Pinkyponk juice and …

In Support of the #LikeAGirl Campaign

When the information about the #LikeAGirl Campaign landed in my inbox, I knew that it was one that would strongly resonate with my daughter. She left her primary school and went to a school where she knew no one save for one of her friends. She was also leaving the area she was familiar with and travelling alone on public transport to a school about 6 miles away. I was not afraid of her failing as I know her well – better than she knows herself but she was. She was afraid of failing to make friends, being judged, not …

Host a Picnic Party and Raise Money for the NSPCC

This is a rather different Twitter party this time. We’re taking part in a campaign to raise money for the NSPCC. The NSPCC is a charity that I feel strongly about as it gives children a voice that they may not normally have. This campaign is a fun campaign and I’m hoping that you can take part too or make a donation towards my cause. The NSPCC is encouraging anyone and everyone to arrange their very own picnic party to fundraise for various services including the Speak Out. Stay Safe. programme in schools, and Childline. You can register here and …

Project Sunlight #ClearAPlate Campaign

As a parent, I try to instill in my children, the idea of not wasting -anything. This pertains to electricity, products, paper and more importantly food. I remember my parents always telling me not to waste food. In fact, we were not allowed to waste. We were served and we had to finish everything on the plate. Nowadays, children tend to waste as a part of life – juice is half drunk, biscuits are half eaten. I was sent this interesting press release and there are some things that I read that probably never occurred to me. 22% of struggling …

#PoweringSmiles this Christmas

My children have been smiling a lot lately. They have been invited to some rather lovely events and have been greeted with some amazing deliveries. I’m not smiling as much because I have to do all the writing that follows. Just kidding. I love my work and I love to see my children smiling. But then, who doesn’t? There are some children who may not be smiling as much this year with the reasons being numerous. Duracell, is a big part of Christmas as it powers toys and games on Christmas Day bringing smiles to everyone. This year Duracell is …

#SeeTheMiracle with Sightsavers

Eyesight is something I take for granted. I do wear spectacles which means that my vision is not 20/20 but the main thing is  – I can see. I can see my family, my home, my neighbourhood, enjoy a sunset –  enjoy the day to day routine without a thought to my  eyes. What would it be like to be blind? It’s a scary thought, one I don’t want to think about. My father recently had the cataract operated in both eyes and I can see how much that has changed his eyesight. Cataract Cataract is a clouding of the …
