Car Journeys with Children – Love them or Loathe them?

Car journeys are a drag – for the children that is! For me, they are stressful  –  and I am not even in the driver’s seat! They have this amazing opinion that almost as soon as you get in the car, the SATNAV should go – ‘you have reached your destination’. Unfortunately, that does not happen – unless of course you need a new SATNAV! Or you have entered your destination as ‘Home’, when in fact –  you are Home. So, all we hear is ‘are we there yet’? or ‘ play this song’. Now, having three of them at …

Free school dinners? Thanks – But I’ll Pass.

School dinners free for primary school children? Am I happy? Well, yes and no! First of all this news has been playing Chinese whispers and I would like to correct this – The school dinners are for children aged 5 -7, not the entire primary age range. My children love school dinners (well, they actually like school desserts, to be honest) Possibly, because of the fact that there are restrictions on desserts in packed lunches. For instance, the school would probably frown upon chocolate in packed lunch but it would be fine to have chocolate cake with chocolate sauce for …

Oilatum launches Comfort Skin Therapy

As I had mentioned in an earlier post, my son suffers from mild eczema. Dry and sensitive skin conditions run in my family with quite a few of us suffering with it. But to see one’s child skin get itchy and dry, can be quite upsetting for a parent. Since my son’s condition is mild, I ensure that his skin does not get irritated with strong soaps and bath foams and shampoos and keep his skin moisturised so the ezcema is under control. With winter creeping up on us, I find I have to be even more careful about keeping …

First Day at School – A Mother’s View

So….on Thursday I dropped off two children to school instead of one. How did I feel? A bit gutted!! I wanted to run and hug him and bring him home with me as I saw him standing lost at the doorway of the classroom waiting to be told where to hang his coat but I didn’t (I couldn’t). Instead, I had bid my goodbyes and watched him walk up the four steps to his classroom. He was sad, I could see it but there were no tears and that made it worse. He’s a stoic, my little one. I remember …

Have you taught your child The Underwear Rule?

With my little one starting school, I felt it was time to teach him – The Underwear Rule. As you may know – the Underwear Rule simply put states that you should not allow anyone to touch you or look at parts of your body covered by underwear. Neither should you look at or touch someone’s body parts covered by underwear if they ask you to. While doing so, I was a bit saddened that I had to make my child aware of his sexuality without him knowing it at such an early age. Obviously, my son wanted to know …

Why my 8-year old daughter likes PktMny

I love PktMny and the concept behind it as you will probably know if you have read my other posts but what does my daughter think of it? The card and the account is after all hers. Jadyn is 8 years old and is learning the value of money. There has been a positive change in her saving and spending behavior and she’s learning about budgeting and earning money. I decided to do a quick interview with her to find out her “ifs” and “buts” and she normally has many!  Me: Do you save money? Jadyn: Yes I do. Me: And …
