It doesn’t take a lot to make a house, a home. It needs family and love.
But to add that special something to a home, it is necessary to have a house that is comfortable and welcoming. Here also, I have learnt with this challenge that it does not need a lot to get a house looking like you want it to.
When I was approached by MoneySuperMarket to take part in the Home Improvement Hero Challenge, I instantly took up on it. With the rise in prices, it is not easy to get by on a budget. Most often, home improvement takes a back seat as it can be quite expensive to do up the home like one would like to.
In taking up this challenge, I learnt one major thing – you don’t need to have a big budget to spend on the home to make it look pleasing to the eye. All it takes is imagination and a vision of how you want your home to be.

When buying products for the home £50 doesn’t go very far. I decided to make my living room more homely and comfortable as well as look stylish. We had purchased new leather sofas about 6 months back but carried on with the same cushions. With the £50, I decided to buy new cushions for the sofas because I think cushions can change the whole look of a living room. I picked up 5 cushions for the sofas and they could be used with the old cushions to make it look even more comfortable or on its own to look more formal.

I also purchased a table runner that sets off my tablecloth that I use when people are over. I can’t use this with the children all the time as my little one will probably just pull everything off the table with it.

To match this and the cushions I bought a glass top that I love having on my table so it protects it if I set hot dishes down and it also holds down the runner and the tablecloth.

I got to test it out on Saturday when we had guests in for dinner and I loved how the room looked. Besides they commented on the cushions and the table looking so good so I was even happier.
Thanks to MoneySupermarket I got a chance to change the look of my room.
The total cost was £44.95 (£8.99 x 5) for the cushions, £3.99 for the Glass top and £3.99 for the Runner – all purchased from Dunelm.
Disclosure: I was paid £50 to purchase products to complete the challenge. All ideas and opinions are my own.
