British Science Week takes place from the 13 – 22 March this year and is a programme where people of all ages take part in activities related to Science, Technology, Maths and Engineering. The children would be pleased to hear the word technology as they’d probably think that means more time on their devices!!
However, I have other plans.
I was sent this 4M Green Science Eco Science Toys kit from Great Gizmos and it’s packed with fun things to do with the children while teaching them concepts of Science.
The kit can make 7 toys but while doing so uses things that can be recycled like cans, bottles, paper cups etc.
We tried out one of the toys/activities and this was quite fun. I have kept the other to try out each day of Science week as then I think the children will learn a new concept everyday.
The kit contains all the bits that you need to make each toy except the recyclable things like cans, toilet roll, old cds and bottles.
With the kit, you can make –
- Hover disc
- Tornado tube
- CD Racer
- Space sound walkie talkie
- Shopping bag parachute
- Cartesian Diver
- Gravity Robot
The instructions are very clear and what I particularly like is that they come with a ‘How it Works’ section to tell you the scientific theory behind the concept and also includes some fun facts about how it relates or you can see it work in daily life.
We tried out the Cartesian Diver and it was easy to do and great fun. I managed a score of zero!!
This is ideal for children as I feel that just seeing an experiment does not help – it is relating it to daily life that helps remember and reinforce learning.
The kit is aimed at children aged 8+ but I’m sure even younger children would be interested. Ethan (6) was very interested in seeing and knowing how it works.
They can’t wait to make the Gravity Robot but we’re saving that for last. 🙂
The kit is priced at £11.95 and I think it is a great kit for boys and girls. There are many more products like this available and you can find out more by visiting www.greatgizmos.co.uk
