How to police your kids’ internet usage

These days, most of our kids and teens will spend a lot of their free time on the internet. This can be at school but also at home; playing games, watching movies or chatting with friends via social media. Whilst this may give hard working parents will some welcome reprieve from being nagged at, it can also easily become a potential problem if left unchecked.   Firstly let’s consider the dangers of spending too much time online. Research has shown that spending too much time online poses health risks such as high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, obesity and increased chance …

Rewind to January 2018 – Let’s Move to Los Angeles

This is a sort of rewind post. It begins with the day we decided we were going to do this – move to Los Angeles, USA. A big decision. A brave decision (I was told by so many) In truth, they probably though I had lost my mind. To give up everything and start again? With 3 children in tow? It meant looking for work, looking for schools and the whole hog…In a new country! The children were not to happy to move – obviously. They were going to miss their friends. I was going to miss all MY friends …

#EveryMomentCounts Challenge with Families Online

I’m a firm believer in making every moment count as I feel life is too short. When I was asked to take part in the Every Moment counts challenge with Families Online, I knew that I had to. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter that you don’t achieve great things every day but if you have put a smile on someone’s face in any little way, then you have made a moment count. We were asked to capture moments with a set theme so here are mine – Day 1 – Together One of my favourite photos of all time. …

Our Family Holiday at Croft Farm & Celtic Cottages, Wales

We’ve visited Wales before but had never been to Cardigan. When a rather exciting email dropped into my inbox with the opportunity to review a short break in Croft Farm, I was thrilled but a bit worried about the long drive there from London. Set amongst stunning Welsh countryside, there are 10 self-catering cottages available and each have different capacities. The establishment is run by Andy and Sylvie, a lovely couple, who ensured that we had a peaceful …

Of Marriage and babies…the views of a 6 and 3 year old.

So…..today the topic of conversation in our home was marriage and having babies. My children are aged 10, 6 and 3. It was actually a conversation between my 6 and 3 year old. Maybe a little too young to have the birds and bees conversation with? 3-year-old Aeryn stated she didn’t want to have babies as you could die when having a baby. Very grim picture. I explained that I was alive and I have 3 babies! But she’s made up her mind. She also decided she doesn’t want to get married. 6 year old Ethan decided he didn’t know …

Helping your child adjust to the arrival of a sibling

It’s very exciting when you bring your baby home. I remember bringing my oldest home. I couldn’t stop looking at her and marvelling at her. I also loved to pick her up and in fact got her used to being carried all the time. With my second baby, it was slightly different. I still marvelled at him but I also had to take into account the feelings of his little sister. Jadyn was 3+ when we brought Ethan home. Though she loved him, she was also very conscious that he was taking a major part of our time away from …
